At first sight, New York doesn’t quite seem like a human size city, but its paradoxes take shape when you realise that it possesses far more humanity than other cities. This unique beauty that cities gain in centuries New York has found in only a few decades. In one city, you discover the presence of an entire continent. There is one event in particular that I wished to work on and that really illustrated and embodied this notion of « humanity »: The NYC Marathon. It practically gathers the entire world in one race. Throughout the 5 boroughs of New York (Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Manhattan) you can see the evolution of the city and of its inhabitants. The landscape evolves as well as the people: the closer you get to Manhattan, the more the energy of the runners is absorbed by the Pharaonic city, until exhaustion in Central Park. This is what I wanted to emphasize for my project: Throughout 3 different axes I developed the idea of changing environment, density/scarcity and blur/geometry. |
