Upon arrival in DC, I joined a travel diary club through a French association for francophones and francophiles: WAA aka Washington Accueil Association.
Every month we meet in a new location and sketch a scene of American life, a monument, a landscape, or a few iconic objects.
I felt a sense of great comfort in documenting my new surroundings through this process and was showcasing my very own version of the United States. The irregularity of your lines, the unpredictable nature of your watercolors give life to something one would not have necessarily thought to be eye catching.
The pleasure of a travel diary lies in its spontaneity, and it is something I’m most grateful to look back at and remember.
